Sic transit gloria mundi

This series uses still life compositions of ordinary, familiar objects, suspended within an artificial, timeless space, to reflect on the passage of time, the impermanence of existence, and the inevitable decay that affects all things. The title draws on the tradition of the Vanitas, reinterpreting its meaning through the medium of photography. By its very nature, photography freezes a single moment in time; here, however, it reveals time through its effects on matter: melting, breaking, wear, and decomposition. The saturated colours and minimal compositions create an illusion of visual harmony that stands in contrast to the memento mori at the heart of the work. Through this tension, the series invites viewers to reflect on the illusion of permanence and the transient nature of all things.
